1. Child-Directed Service
•QuizOwl is a child-directed educational service designed for children aged 5–15 in India. A parent or guardian creates the account, provides the child's details, and consents to the child's use of QuizOwl.
•We follow practices aligned with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 for children's data: we collect only the limited information needed to run the learning experience, we never use it for behavioural advertising, and a parent can review or delete their child's data at any time.
•We do not knowingly allow a child to create an account without a parent/guardian. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without parental consent, please contact connect@quizowl.in and we will remove it.
2. What Data We Collect
•Parent/guardian account: full name, email address (used to log in), and an optional phone number.
•Child profile: a display name of your choosing, plus the academic board (CBSE / SSC English / SSC Semi-English), class level (Upper KG to Class 10), and the age band our system derives from that class — used only to show the right quizzes.
•Subscription & trial: your plan status (free trial / premium / expired) and the trial start and end dates. A one-month free trial starts automatically when you set up a profile; no payment is required for it.
•Learning & progress data: quiz and homework attempts, answers given, scores, accuracy, time spent, XP and level, coins, gems, streak days, badges/awards, mascot costumes, sound theme, chosen avatar, and progress through journeys, daily challenges, IQ/GK/AI, spoken-English and mini-game modules.
•Spoken English pronunciation: a short microphone recording that is analysed to give pronunciation feedback. See Section 8 for how this is handled.
•School accounts (for schools using QuizOwl): school name, student name, parent email and phone, class and teacher assignments, and school-issued login credentials — managed by the school's administrators, teachers and principal.
•Device & technical: basic device and session information needed to keep you logged in and keep the app working. We do NOT access your contacts, calendar, camera, location, NFC, Bluetooth, or phone-call information.
3. Why We Collect Each Type
•Account & child profile → to create a safe, personalised learning journey at the right board, class and age level.
•Subscription & trial dates → to activate your free month and grant or restrict premium features.
•Learning & progress data → to track progress, award badges/XP, show parents and teachers how the child is doing, and recommend the next lesson.
•Pronunciation audio → solely to score how clearly the child spoke a line, then it is discarded (only the score is kept).
•School-managed data → to let the child's school, class teacher and principal view progress and assign homework.
•We never sell personal data, and we never use it for targeted or behavioural advertising.
4. Payments
•Premium subscriptions are billed through our payment partner Stripe. Stripe processes your card or UPI details directly — QuizOwl never sees or stores full card numbers.
•We keep only your subscription status and billing dates on our side, so we can enable premium content.
•Subscriptions auto-renew and can be cancelled anytime from your app store account or by contacting us.
5. Data Sharing
•We do not sell your data — ever.
•We share data only with service providers that help run QuizOwl (e.g., the Base44 hosting/database platform, the Stripe payment processor, and the speech-transcription service for pronunciation) — each bound by strict data-protection terms and used only to deliver the feature.
•Schools using QuizOwl can see their own students' progress and manage their classes; they cannot see other schools' data.
•We may share anonymised, aggregated statistics (never individual identities) for reporting or product improvement.
6. Cookies & Tracking
•We use session/local storage to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (theme, avatar, sound).
•We do not use third-party advertising cookies or ad networks.
•Any analytics we use are anonymised and never tied to your child's identity.
7. Data Retention
•We keep your data while your account is active, and for school accounts while the school remains onboarded.
•When you delete an account (from Settings → Delete Account, or by asking your school to remove it), we erase the personal data within 30 days.
•Pronunciation audio is not retained beyond the short time needed to score it.
8. Your Rights (and a Parent's Rights Over a Child's Data)
•Access: you can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you or your child.
•Correction: you can update your name, your child's display name, and contact details anytime in Settings; board/class are fixed at signup for accurate quiz content.
•Deletion: you can delete the account and all associated data yourself, or ask us to do it.
•Withdraw consent: a parent can withdraw consent and close the child's account at any time.

9. Microphone & Spoken English
•QuizOwl uses the microphone ONLY after a child taps "Start Speaking" inside a Spoken English lesson — it is never activated automatically, on launch, or in the background.
•A visible "Listening…" indicator appears while the microphone is active, and recording stops automatically after each attempt (and after 6 seconds at most).
•A short, plain-language disclosure appears the first time before the device permission request, so a parent or child can choose "Continue" or "Not Now".
•Audio is uploaded only to produce pronunciation feedback and is processed under a randomised, non-identifiable filename. It is never used for advertising, profiling, or unrelated AI training.
•Only the pronunciation score is saved — not the raw audio — and no audio URL is ever returned to your device.
•Parents can delete a child's pronunciation history and all associated data — either by deleting the account in Settings, or by contacting connect@quizowl.in.
